As a movie fan, I am always interested in the software which is able to convert DVD/Blu-ray Discs to videos, so that I can add the videos to any portable devices. My friend recommended DVDFab to me, which I think is very much flexible and helpful.

As you known, MKV is a very popular video format and is playable by most software player and devices. Here I’d like to supply a little tip about how to convert a Blu-ray to MKV.

1.       Firstly, after start DVDFab, you can see this main screen. Click on Ripper option and choose output profile as MKV.  There are three MKV profile in the list. If you want to convert to the best quality and don’t care about the video size too much, I recommend MKV Passthrough to use.

2.       You need to load a Blu-ray source in this step. Both real Blu-ray disc and Blu-ray ISO/Folder file on your hard disc are acceptable.
For a real disc, DVDFab would detect and load automatically. In case you need to load the Blu-ray file on your hard drive, you can click on the “+Add” button on the top left corner, or the big “+” button in the middle of the screen to load.

3.       After loading source, you can browse all the titles on the main screen. For a movie, the title shown there is always the main title which DVDFab selected automatically. You can view other titles by click on the “+” below main title. Then all the titles are listed below. There you can see a little green button. By click on that button it would activate a floating window for preview. In order to choose the right title to rip, you’d better preview it firstly and make sure that is the correct title you need.

4.        The “Advanced Setting” button becomes available to use after you load a source. You can adjust some of the video / audio/ subtitle parameter there. As a note, for MKV Passthrough, subtitle mode is the unique option which is available to be adjusted.  In fact, if there’s no special need, I suggest you just keep the original parameters, since the output of default settings is not bad.

If you want to adjust the ratio, you need to “Crop” through “Edit” page. “Trim” is also a very useful feature.

5.       After complete all the settings, you just need to choose the output location through “Save to” option and click on “Start” button lightly.

Now, all what you need to do have been done, you can just leave the rest works to DVDFab and just have a break yourself.
